Dimplex DS2205 Compact Electric Stove, Black Review

Dimplex DS2205 Compact Electric Stove, Black
Average Reviews:

This little guy was plugged in and went to work immediately, heating our 16x20 living room built on a concrete slab addition. It has a mechanism to prevent overheating, so we tend to leave it on all day and night in the coldest weather...which can be pretty cold here in central Michigan. The ONLY thing we don't like (and it's rather trivial) is that you can't have the heater on without the flame effect. Again, not a big issue, since the flames are pretty realistic looking, when compared to almost all other models. It comes with a remote, although we never use it. It's not too big and has a very nice rustic appearance that goes perfect with our "lodge themed" living room. It also doesn't weight a ton, so it can be moved to wherever it is needed, but is still solid little unit.

Cedar Wood Incense - 40 Bricks (Cones) - Incienso De Santa Fe Review

Cedar Wood Incense - 40 Bricks (Cones) - Incienso De Santa Fe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you're someone that is familiar with incense, you will definitely find this kind to be a little different. This red ceder scented incense is part of a line of wood based blends that include balsam and mesquite, among others. They are a little more loosely packed then sweeter traditional incense you may be used too, and emit a much smokier, fire burning smell than oil based blends. It's my opinion that if you are used to the usual swirls that emit from cone incense, you may just find this to be a bit overwhelming. If however, you feel the extra smoke won't bother you, you may also find this and the other wood based incense to promote a very warm and cozy atmosphere of a burning fireplace. It will fill your room with a delightful ceder wood aroma to be sure. The looser base of these blends make for a much faster burning experience than your average cone, or stick incense. My average per brick is about 20 minutes and its done. The return however is that the extra smoky blend makes for a longer lasting scent in the aftermath.
I have not found these, or any of the others in this line, to be any harder to light than any other kind of incense. And with all due respect to the other reviewer here that stated they do not stand up easily, I have had no problems with mine in that area. I would prefer a traditional cone over the little brick design that these are, but they are still very manageable. If your an incense enthusiast, I would definitely recommend at least trying this old fashioned ceder blend. Perhaps picking up a small box as part of a free shipping package just to try them out...

Camerons Products Gourmet Mini Smoker Review

Camerons Products Gourmet Mini Smoker

I purchased the regular size unit (11x15x3) new, about 2 years ago locally for the price of
$35.oo, the regular unit does a very good job - the smaller (11x7x3) will work just as well.
I feel that the price of $29.95 is a little high, if it wasn't for free shipping, i would have
passed it by. I feel that both units should be 5 inches high for use with thicker pieces
of meat, that way you needn't use a foil balloon top to replace the cover.Other items of
interest - - You can buy a large bag of shredded wood chips for about $2.oo locally.
If the smoker top releases to much smoke it can be carefully warped (see instructions )
to lessen the amount of smoke released. To insure that most of the smoke goes up
your kitchen range hood, place a sheet-pan or plywood on top of your stove burners
(Burners Off !) on top of this place a One burner electric Hot Plate set to medium heat,
on top of this place your smoker ! - smoke for 15 to 20 minutes - finish your product in
the oven if necessary. To make cleanup easier (charred wood residue) use foil, 2 pieces
6x6 inches - press one into the ridges on the bottom of the smoker pan, them add the
shredded wood chips into the ridges, then just lay the second piece on top of the chips.
then assemble as per the instructions.
You have to learn by doing - try - try again till you get it perfect

10 Lb Fatwood In Color Carton Review

10 Lb Fatwood In Color Carton
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've tried every kind of fire-starter out there and always keep coming back to fatwood as being the best, easiest to use, and definitely most environmentally responsible. It contains no petrochemicals - just good-old pine resin. It's "made" by leaving pine stumps standing for a few months after harvesting the trees, so that the resin in the roots moves up into the stump. The stump is then split and cured awhile before being packaged - by the time you get it, it's dry and volatile and lights really fast and burns really hot.
All I use to get a roaring fire going is two sticks, lit and dropped between between two logs in the wood-stove. I add a small handful of bark and twigs to the blaze, then put my top-log on top of that. I heat my whole home with nothing but my wood-stove every winter, and fatwood makes that job a lot easier.
The only thing I've ever encountered that starts a fire faster and hotter is Army-surplus trioxane tablets, which are impressive, but really toxic - I was always worried about inhaling the dust or getting it into my clothes (and I wasn't too thrilled about what I was sending up the chimney, either!) And those sawdust-and-paraffin fire-starter bricks from the grocery store are just about worthless - almost as hard to light as plain wood! So fatwood it is for me, and has been for years now.
This particular product is also the best deal per pound that I've found so far for fatwood - even after adding shipping and handling. The box it comes in is a nice bonus, too - easy to dispense from and store. I hope Amazon keeps offering it!

Cuisinart GreenGourmet Hard Anodized Eco-Friendly Nonstick 10-by-18-Inch Double-Burner Griddle Review

Cuisinart GreenGourmet Hard Anodized Eco-Friendly Nonstick 10-by-18-Inch Double-Burner Griddle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This griddle is exactly what I was looking for - it heats evenly, it's lightweight, it fits exactly over two burners, and it's got a cutout on one corner to pour out the grease. The ceramic cooking surface is very non-stick and stays that way over time. Do not use non-stick sprays (not that you need them), as they will leave a residue over time that's impossible to clean up. Using only a small amount of butter or oil, all of my Green Gourmet pans are as clean and non-stick as they were when I bought them. Cuisinart says they're dishwasher safe, but I've never seen the need to do so; they've never needed more than a few wipes with a soapy sponge to get completely clean.

Designed to fit over two burners on the stove top, this 10-by-18-inch griddle looks a bit like a cookie sheet with handles, but it offers a wide range of stovetop cooking options. Its smooth, flat surface nicely accommodates anything from pancakes, eggs, and hash browns to salmon fillets, falafel patties, veggie shish-kabobs, and more.
Cuisinart's GreenGourmet Hard Anodized line of cookware combines an earth-friendly design with high-quality materials to ensure long-lasting performance with reduced impact on the environment. The cookware's hard-anodized aluminum construction heats up quickly and evenly, which means less energy required to achieve the desired cooking temperature, and its exclusive, scratch-resistant, ceramic-based nonstick coating (PTFE/PFOA-free and petroleum-free) helps reduce oil consumption and preserve the environment--plus it's applied at a temperature one half that of conventional nonsticks, and it won't peel off. Furthermore, its nonstick cooking surface ensures effortless food release without the need for excess butter or oil, which means lower fat cooking options and quick cleanup. The cookware's riveted side handles stay cool to the touch on the stovetop and are made from 70-percent recycled stainless steel. Even more, Cuisinart uses packaging made from 100-percent recycled materials and printed with soy ink. Oven-safe up to 500 degrees F and safe to use under the broiler, the cookware cleans up easily by hand and carries a limited lifetime warranty. From the Manufacturer

Rapid Brew Stainless Steel Stovetop Coffee Percolator, 2-12 cup Review

Rapid Brew Stainless Steel Stovetop Coffee Percolator, 2-12 cup
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you have mineral tap water that repeatedly ruins automatic coffee brewers, then try a stove top pot. We purchased one of these from another vendor for over $50 a few years ago and we're still using it daily. I don't see any reason to remove the lid like another reviewer said and the steel has no dings or warps at all after much use. When I saw that Amazon had one at this price I decided to buy another to keep for backup. We set the stove timer to signal in 10 - 12 minutes then turn down the control from high to low. It's easy to control the intensity and temperature of the coffee and the brewing basket is large, providing good water flow. This is a big improvement over the inconsistent results we got with automatic brewers and it doesn't get stopped up with mineral deposits.

Catskill Craftsmen Pro Series Reversible Cutting Board with Groove Review

Catskill Craftsmen Pro Series Reversible Cutting Board with Groove

Awesome product! I ordered this in the large 30" x 20" size because we've gone a lot more "raw" and I wanted to cover my glass stovetop to protect it and get more prep space. It was the best idea I've had in months!
The board is heavy enough not to shift as I use it, but easy to move if we need to use the stovetop (which is rare). It's a beautiful board on both sides (I use the flat side), easy to clean, and looks great in the kitchen.
Having the large cutting surface is perfect for preparing raw dishes that call for several raw ingredients to be chopped, minced, etc - you can have it all on the board, pushing back what you've already prepped and just keep going - then assemble at the end. It makes food prep so much easier - I love this board :-)
Now I just need a super-fabulous knife! lol

Bodum Chambord Stainless Steel Stovetop Espresso Maker Review

Bodum Chambord Stainless Steel Stovetop Espresso Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I must get something out of the way first:
The reviewers who griped about the handle breaking must not have read the instructions, which clearly state to NOT tighten the top using the handle. The handle on both my coffee pots (I own both the small and large versions) have worked perfectly well for the six or more months I've owned them. There is nothing wrong with either the design or use of these pots that a little common sense wouldn't have fixed, and it's a shame to see such a wonderful product unfairly reviewed.
Okay, with the air cleared, I'll move on to the review:
I have owned and used a Bialetti aluminum stovetop "Moka" pot for years. Bialetti's pots are just fine, but the untreated aluminum discolors and stains easily.
Keep in mind, a stovetop espresso pot will give you percolated espresso (if you use espresso roast coffee) which is not the same as a traditional espresso shot, like what you'd get from Starbucks. Frankly, I think it tastes better, but it is different, and there's little or no "crema" with a percolated espresso.
If you move to Bodum's pots from Bialetti, as I did, you will immediately notice how the fit and finish of these pots is clean and precise. Screwing the top to the bottom is silky smooth (unlike the Bialetti that can squeak and chatter). The gasket that forms the seal between top and bottom appears to be made of black silicone, and remains springy and supple even after all the months of daily use I've given it. (Bodum includes a replacement gasket in the box, but I can't imagine when I'll need to replace it.) The gasket with the Bialetti is white, and appears to be made of rubber, and will discolor the first time you use it, and goes on to form tiny cracks fairly quickly.
When you make a pot of percolated espresso, "low and slow" is the general rule. Fill the stainless steel filter basket, but do not overfill and DO NOT pack the grains down. You will want to use only a percolated grind, which is a grind roughly the size of "Sugar in the Raw" granules. To use anything finer will result in clogging of the filters, grains of coffee in the top pot (and in your cup) as well as down into the water reservoir.
Fill the bottom reservoir with water up to the max fill line. Make sure there are no grains of coffee on the lip of the basket. Sit the basket down into the reservoir, and screw the top on to the bottom (ahem... and do not use the handle to tighten, per my opening rant!) Tighten it fairly tight - you want a good solid seal - but don't over-tighten. Too loose, and the pressure of the boiling water cannot come up and into the top carafe.
Set you heat fairly low. The coffee will start to flow silently and slowly at first. The trick seems to be to immediately turn off the heat once water is exhausted and the perc head is hissing and bubbling a bit; the coffee will be about 1/4 inch from the bottom opening of the perc head.
Cleanup is a breeze. Disassemble your pot when it's cool. Use something plastic (a bic pen cap works perfectly) to remove the silicone gasket. Clean everything with warm sudsy water and dry. Or put it in the dishwasher. (Something you can't do with Bialetti.)
Keep in mind...
If you have your coffee ground at Starbucks or Peet's, remember to make a point of explaining that you need a Percolator (or "Moka Pot") grind. You definitely do NOT want the typical espresso dust type of grind, or you will not enjoy your Chambord!
I have zero regrets with either of my Bodum Chambord espresso pots, and highly recommend them to everyone. I hope some of this was useful to you. ENJOY!

Lodge Logic Camp Dutch Oven Review

Lodge Logic Camp Dutch Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
People seem to either love, hate, or have total disinterest in cast iron cookware. I love it. It seems to have a lot more soul than "modern" utensils.
I've been reading "Little House on the Prarie" to my daughter and she enjoyed hearing how the Ingalls used a pot just like daddy has.
This dutch oven is quite versitile. I can use it with campfire coals, with charcoal, over my Coleman campstove, or in the oven at home. The legs are too long to use on my rangetop at home (without risking damage to the range surface).
Dutch oven cooking is an acquired skill (on top of the general cast iron learning curve), but I've had no problems so far. I have mostly used it to make chicken or beef stew when camping.
Once you get hooked on dutch ovens, then you start wanting accessories. I use a charcoal chimney to start the coals, a pair of metal tongs to move the coals around, and a metal oil drain pan to contain the coals. I've just ordered a Lodge lid lifter, lid rack, and leather gloves to make the whole process a bit easier and safer.
I'm also already thinking of my next dutch oven. It will be the "deep" 8 quart. The 4 quart being reviewed here is 10" diameter at the lid and 3-1/2" deep. The "deep" 8 quart is 12" at the lid and 5" deep. (The standard depth 12" oven is 6 quarts, the standard depth 8 quart is 14" diameter). For soup or stew I like to leave some space below the rim so I probably only get 3 quarts in the 4 quart model, while the deeper 8 quart model would allow a greater percentage of the volume to be used. I imagine for bisquits or other baked goods the standard depth is probably fine.

Would love to this a five star rating but mine cooks too hot. I just cooked my third roast over 3 lbs on low and it cooked in 3 hours. It is supposed to take 6 - 10 hours per the manufacturers instructions. It looks great and being able to sear in the same pan is a big advantage in my galley but the inability to really cook things on a low temperature is disappointing. No response from the manufacturer from their help desk.

Equipped with a wrap-around heating element to ensure even cooking temperatures, this convenient slow cooker offers an extra-large 7-quart-capacity (6-1/2 liters) that comes in handy for dinner parties, holiday gatherings, or everyday meals with family and friends. The thoughtfully designed appliance offers simple, one-pot cooking with the help of its EasySear stovetop insert. Made of scratch-resistant, die-cast aluminum with a Quantanium nonstick coating, the removable insert functions as a premium piece of stand-alone cookware. Use it for searing on the stovetop, slow cooking in the slow cooker, or roasting in the oven. For example, the cooking vessel can be used to sear, saute, or brown ingredients on a gas or electric stovetop, then be returned to the cooker for a slow, simmering finish to enhance flavors. It can even be lifted out of the slow cooker for use as an elegant banquet-style serving piece.
Choose from three heat settings: "low" (5 to 10 hours), "high" (3 to 4 hours), or "dual" (4 to 8 hours between "low" and "high" heat). The "low" setting works well for gently simmering pot roasts, braises, and dishes with tougher cuts of meats for an extended period of time without over cooking or burning, while the "high" and "dual" settings work well for better cuts of meat and dishes with vegetables and grains like lentil soup or vegetable stew. Other highlights include a domed stainless-steel lid that can be used in the oven, removable silicone handle covers for safely transferring food from the stove to the cooker, a simple temperature-control dial, and a removable cord for serving at the table and compact storage. A stainless-steel roasting rack comes included. Elegantly housed in brushed stainless steel, the slow cooker measures approximately 18-1/4 by 11-1/2 by 9-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Napoleon wood fireplace insert porcelain enamel black Review

Napoleon wood fireplace insert porcelain enamel black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my third year using this stove to heat my entire house 1,400 sf. We use 5 cords each year. Never need gas even at 30 below 0
Pros: This has been a great stove. The fire box is very big and allows for a lot of wood to be packed in the box for an all night burn. I could not imagine using a stove with a smaller box than this one. Having two blowers on each side of the unit really pulls the air through the stove. You can watch TV with it on low but just a bit noisy on high. High is similar to a box fan on medium. But very quiet considering how much air is moving. Design of the stove box allows for the reburn effect which is fun to watch. No mechanical problems yet. Stove is built like a tank and will last.

Tips: Get some high temp calk and beed around the front window to seal any air leaks. It will make sure you have good control over the air intake and fire/heat output. Always make sure the special top ceramic pieces are scooted back. They are on either side of the top of the fire box. They are very light, check each time you fill the stove. Buy a stove top temp gauge. It will be very useful in keeping the box a constant temp. Also it will keep you from making the fire too hot. Put the temp gauge to the side of center of the exit shoot where the air exits the stove. The center is where 90% of the air exits and you do not want to impede the air flow. Take apart the fan cages on either side of stove and clean about 2 times each year for heavy use. Easy to do but you have to find the two machine screws behind the decorative grate.
Installing it yourself is not that difficult but takes some research. Get a high quality Stainless Steel pipe. I also got the 2 foot extension above the chimney top. I highly recommend doing this expecially if your chimney is short. . The longer it is the more draw you will get which helps the pull air into the firebox. I got my liner from chimneydepot.com because they had great service and were the only company to warenty the stove pipe for life even if you the homeowner installs the unit. I would never use this stove without a 6 inch pipe all the way to the top of the chimney. You can but dangerous. Get a 6 inch brush and the brush adapter rods (I got mine at menards) and clean it out about every 2 cords or so. It is easy and essential for proper flow not to mention prevent a chimney fire.
Install: When removing the damper it just lifts out if you get the right angle. Or at least mine did. I also had to buy a special oval piece to get through the damper area. Chimneydepot.com sent me a custom package that was easy to install.

Burning tips: It will take a while to get a handle on exactly how to use this stove most effectively. First thing is to consider the moisture of the wood. You can burn on low and save wood when the moisture content is very low. The higher the moisture content the more wood you have to burn to keep the fire going. I can keep one log burning if really dry but need two just to keep the fire going when wet.
Stack the logs from front to back and not the normal way they would fit in a fireplace. The intake air located front bottom center will circulate much better with the logs inserted ends front to back. This will keep good circulation of the air in the box.
The bigger you can have the logs the longer it will burn. Less surface area. Aslo split logs into square or rectangular logs. This makes it easier to load for all night burns. IF you have over sized logs they will fit from back corner left to front corner right. you can fit logs 2-4 inches longer than front to back if need be.
Be careful with the two ceramic top deviders mentioned above. I have dinged mine up pretty good and some day I will need to replace them. Avoid this by not jamming logs into the stove top.
The logs twards the back tend not to burn as well as what is located in front of the stove. It is a good thing becasue they will keep hot all night so you can easily restart the fire the next morning. You will get some big coals that need to be pulled forward before you restock the stove with wood. Keep the ashes away from the front air intake.
Starting tips: Use bellows to blow on the newspaper which is wadded up under the kendling . It works great. I wish I would have purchased one sooner. The extra airflow gets the fire hot much sooner. Sometimes if the house is cold 20 min. is worth the effort. I have used those fire starter logs and they worked but I have lots of paper and that works just as well.
Always save some cold coals from the last burn. They really get started fast and heat the bottom of the fire wiich helps when cold. In other words do not scoop all the coals when cleaning the ashes out. save all the big pieces. Another tip is when you want to clean out ashes when the fire is still burning move all the burn to one side of the box. Usually one log and associated hot coals. The other side will burn down to nothing and you can scoop all the ashes from that half of the box. Then move the hot log and big ambers to the empty side you just cleaned. Scoop the ashes from the other side and then load the box. This saves any down time. Be careful because the coals will be hot and you want to get them out of the house ASAP.
Takes a few months to get use to this stove.

Umbra Prop Wood and Acrylic Cookbook Stand Review

Umbra Prop Wood and Acrylic Cookbook Stand

Workmanship & quality appear excellent.
Holds cookbook well.
However, many of my recipes are single printed sheets from on-line sources.
These tend to slip through the gap at the bottom of the glass.
Also, you cannot adjust the tilt angle to display more vertically or more flat.

Honeywell L4064B2236 combination fan and limit furnace control Review

After a bit of browsing the web I found that this was the replacement for my obsoleted fan/limit switch. It turns out the only difference was the addition of a manual fan control. Other than that, it was completely identical. Installation and adjustment was pretty easy. I got a great deal at Amazon. My local supply house wanted about twice what I paid (around $60). Just a word of caution, if you have a low voltage control be sure to remove the link (see instructions)!

Lipper International 8830 Bamboo Over The Edge of Counter Cutting Board Review

Lipper International 8830 Bamboo Over The Edge of Counter Cutting Board

Well, one of the reason I orderd this product was due to its thickness mentioned in product description (13.8 x 17.6 x 2 inches). However, when I received I was so disappointed that board's thickness is not even an inch. When I was about return the piece and carefully looked at the product, I realized they have actually added 17.6 x 1.25 x 1 inch wood so it could look thicker in the picture. Actual thickness of the board is what you see upper darker part in product picture. If you are looking for thicker board then you would be very very disappointed if you purchase this.
