YOU can coil it for smaller dishes or mold into a circle for larger.

Emile Henry Flame Top Round Oven Review

(More customer reviews)I had put off buying a dutch oven for quite some time, just because they are always SO heavy and SO expensive (the good ones, anyway).
I was at Sur la Table looking at dutch ovens when I lifted the lid off a Emile Henry Flame Top and very nearly threw the lid backwards over my shoulder because I expected it to be about twice as heavy as it actually was. I was dubious; a ceramic dutch oven? It was on sale so I bought it, thinking that I could return it if I didn't like it.
I don't like it. I LOVE it. So far everything has cooked absolutely perfectly in it. The ceramic retains and radiates heat better then metal, excellently searing pot roasts and then simmering evenly on the very lowest gas heat setting. If my Flame Top went missing today I'd buy another one without hesitation. This is 100% heirloom cookware: it's going to be in your family, being used, for a long time.
To address the complaint that the Flame Top retains odors, all I can say is that I never had this problem, but with two caveats. The first is that the reviewer didn't state if she seasoned her Flame Top as recommended by the manufacturer (instructions are both in the box and on the website). The ceramic glaze needs to be "set" by simmering either milk or water with dry rice in it before it's first real use. If this step is skipped and the pot is instead seasoned with tomato sauce, then I imagine there would be a problem. The second issue is that of tomato sauce in general. Highly acidic foods cooked in any lightly porous cookware are going to leave an odor behind, at least for a little while, that's why tomato-based sauces should always be cooked in steel. Like I said, I've cooked a range of stinky, odorous foods in my Henry pot and it doesn't smell at all.

Victorinox Swiss Army Ranger Pocket Knife Review

(More customer reviews)I have always wanted a Swiss Army Knife, probably because I watched too much Macgyver. I ordered the Swiss Champ from Amazon (Which has the best bargain anywhere!) and forgot how big it was. When I got it I was kind of overwhelmed and knew it wouldn't be carried around in my pocket all the time. It is definitely more of a Multi Tool than a pocket Knife. So I looked around and it was a choice between the Ranger and the Craftsman. They are basically the same except that the Ranger has a corkscrew and the Craftsman has a Philips Head screwdriver instead plus the pliers. I really didn't find it necessary to have a set of pliers plus, most Philips head screws can easily be screwed in by a flat head anyway. The pliers would have added a few more millimeters and might have made the knife feel too wide. The Ranger is a great all around tool and not too big for my average sized hands.

Rinnai ES38-P Direct Vent Wall Furnace, Propane Review

(More customer reviews)The Rinnai ES38 wall furnace ordered from Amazon arrived approximately one week later and had sustained significant shipping damage. Amazon and UPS were notified and the stove was sent back. A second unit was ordered a few days later and arrived shortly thereafter. It had also sustained significant shipping damage and was sent back. Both of these units were shipped UPS Ground - Super Saver Free Shipping. Amazon / UPS were both very good with regard to prompt action and refunds were timely.
A third Unit was ordered from another vendor in Pennsylvania and was shipped truck freight. It arrived 2 days later and was in perfect condition.
These Unit are fragile and easily damaged (based upon my experience). I was told that Amazon now ships these units truck freight but did not verify this. I would recommend you check with seller to discuss shipping method - recommend Truck Freight.
With regard to the Rinnai ES38 wall furnace, you will probably need to have a professional install it unless you are comfortable with flaring copper tubing, working with propane supply line installation, cutting a 3" hole through the side of your house to install the flu assembly and possibly measuring the propane supply line pressure with a manometer. Sounds like a job for a good handyman. The manual can be downloaded from the web before you purchase to help you decide about your installation and how much help you will need. Read the installation instructions carefully and be sure to use the installation template provided.
Once installed, the wall furnace fired up with no problems and runs like a champ. It is relatively quiet with heat being discharged from the lower portion of the front panel. Room temperature control is excellent. Controls are well placed and simple to operate and the Unit (mine is Beige) looks good. The permanent air filters are well designed and easy to clean and the built in humidifier should come in handy during the dry winter months. I would recommend purchase of this Unit to others.

Brinkmann 810-5000-0 All-In-One Outdoor Cooker, Black Review

(More customer reviews)This All-in-One idea is really cool. As a smoker, it's very good. Easy to maintain temperature by adjusting the gas flow and air intake. It's a little dificult to run at low temps (200f) if the weather is warm. If you turn the gas down too low, a slight wind will blow out the burner. We solved the problem by giving it more gas, but starving the intake of air.
As a grill, it's not very good. It works, but not very efficiently. We have to crank the gas up real hot to get the pumice warm enough to sizzle steaks. We found that in charcoal mode, it works best after putting a grill inside, raised slightly above the vented tray bottom with some spacers. Put the charcoal on the raised grill. The extra air under the coals makes for a hotter fire.
Now the great part; fried turkeys. This is no 30,000 BTU camp stove. The burner on this baby really puts the heat on 4 gallons of oil. It's almost scary how powerful the burner is.
One final word; this setup does not come with a propane tank. If you don't have one, count on another $25-30 bucks, and on big projects, make sure it's full. Theres nothing more depressing than getting halfway through a 8 hour turkey smoke and run out of fuel.

(More customer reviews)I stumbled upon this when searching for a "flat bottom" water bath canner for making dill pickles...it was recommended on a blog somewhere. I hesitated since I had never heard of "Jarden" brand, but then realized it was made by "Ball" of the mason jar fame.
The pot is a heavy bottom bot that sits flat on my glass cooktop. I checked the owners manual for my range and it stated I could can on top of it as long as the pot was flat and it did not extend too far over the edge of the burner. CHECK YOUR MANUAL to be certain, or call the company...not worth it to screw up the sensors on your stove, or damage the material.
The see-through glass is really handy for visual monitoring and it's well made. Stunning stainless steel takes us out of the stone age in water bath canners. I am very pleased.

Swissmar Lugano Cheese 9 Piece Fondue Set, Red Review

(More customer reviews)I ordered the Swissmar and the Le Crueset fondue because I wanted to compare the two. I was willing to pay the higher price for the Le Crueset if the quality and design etc. where there. After seeing both items, I will be keeping the the Swissmar. For full disclosure, I have not used either unit yet.
Swissmar:
The bowl is wide and shallow. Can use the bowl on the stove to start the melting process. Old school design, very traditional type of fondue set I guess you could say. Dual use burner; can use either alcohol or gel. The handle on the bowl is hollowed out underneath. In other words, the round handle is not solid. This is probably to help with the weight of the bowl because it is pretty heavy. The forks are long and have three prongs; the handles are wood and are black or very very dark brown. The handles do not have colored ends; they do not have any way to identify them for individual use. The iron stand and base are attached, they are one. The stand and base have a sort of antiqued look to it; the black on the stand I think is meant to look aged, or antiqued. The burner has a protective rubber housing on the handle so you won't burn your hand while touching the burner. The burner has "Swissmar" embossed on the handle. I happen to like seeing the Swissmar label on the stand. Moderate price.
Le Crueset:
The bowl is tall and deep. Can use the bowl on the stove to start the melting process. The set is much more contemporary and sleek. It requires a trivet or something for the unit to sit on because the metal stand gets hot. It mentions this in the instructions. The bowl rests tight and secure on the metal stand. The fork handles are a light wood with colored tips to identify individual forks; the forks have only two prongs. The burner is not dual use; it only burns alcohol. The burner cannot be removed from the stand with the bowl in place. The bowl has to be off the stand to take out the burner. High price tag.
While I tend to prefer simple and contemporary which is why I wanted to check out the Le Crueset, in this case I just couldn't justify the price tag of $150.00 vs. 85.00. Plus, I really liked that the Swissmar offered the dual purpose burner to allow fondues for both oil (alcohol> high heat) and cheese/chocolate (gel> lower heat). And actually, for fondue, I kind of like the Swissmar unit in that it looks (to me) more traditional and classic. I may be slightly persuaded of this because when I was recently in Sun Valley, and had lunch on top of Baldy at the Roundhouse, the fondue they served was in a Swissmar unit.

(More customer reviews)Ok, this is obviously not the same as the traditional All Clad stock pots, if it was it would be more then triple the price of this one without the 2 inserts. It is part of the disk bottom collection, however it is still top quality stainless steel and very well made. I certainly would not consider it secondary. It is a little lighter in weight than the traditional All Clad but it is not a light weight pot by any means. It is great for pasta, soup, stew, steaming veggies, etc. You will love it and you can't beat the price. It is very easy to clean and the inserts can be stacked and stored inside. A+
Tip: If you should get something stuck to the stainless steel use a product called "Bar Keepers Friend" to clean it. Most supermarkets have it and Kitchen Etc. and Bed, Bath and Beyond carry it too. The container (like a Comet can) is gold with blue and white writing. All Clad recommends it for cleaning stainless steel and it works like a dream and is very inexpensive.

(More customer reviews)Purchased the item for a upcoming tailgating event. Upon opening the box I identified that the lid was heavily damaged. I contacted King Kooker who took issue with the fact I couldnt find a serial number on the unit or the box, nonetheless, two weeks later I recieved a new lid after calling them 3 times. In the meantime, I decided to season the cast iron pot. There was an inch deep coating of paraffin inside the bottom which required two or more hours to carve off. When the lid arrived I decided to assemble the base of the unit, and you guessed it... more problems. The necessary nuts and bolts were excluded and the burner assembly shipped in the box was for another cooker. This product is cheaply made and is a nightmare to deal with, do yourself a favor and steer clear of it.

If you do find them, they often are just a solid color (silver, black or copper), so if you want something other than that you have to really look around. We like these burner covers because our kitchen is blue, and these look nice on our white stove top. The price was no more (even with shipping) than we would have paid for a set in a store, and we got something that looked nicer with our color scheme than silver, black or copper. thanks.

(More customer reviews)My wife and I have used this heater over a two year period in our Vanagon Westfalia.
The heater is troublesome in that it goes out frequently, sometimes because of the slightest movement of air. At other times it seems to go out because the propane cannister is nearly, but not entirely, depleted. At still other times the heater goes out for no discoverable reason.
These symptoms occur whether we use the heater with disposable cannisters or with a 1 gallon refillable tank. (We use a filter with the refillable tank, but that has not helped.)
We avoid the use of disposable cannisters because they are much more expensive to use than a refillable tank ($4 for 1 pound vs. about $3.50 for about 5 pounds) and because we don't consider the disposable cannisters to be environmentally friendly. Disposable cannisters are also difficult to dispose of properly.
Perhaps our heater is defective?
All this said, we consider the heater safe to use and, importantly to us, it is very quiet. It produces enough heat for us with the pop top raised when the ambient outdoor temperature is 32 degrees.
