I was not expecting it to be so loud when the heater is on since the description says that it is a realistic fireplace. Once I got used to the noise from the fireplace I opened the box to assemble the mantle. The instructions are a lot less than detailed, just some pictures, and I receievd more screws than listed on the contents. I dont know what they are for yet. When I started to look at the mantle pieces wrapped in thin white foam, 2 pieces were really damaged (piece #1 and #5)Where they were supposed to be nailed or screwed together they were just flopping. So Ive called govacume 4 times and have not had the opportunity to speak to anyone yet. The last 2 times I called it just rang until it disconnected me. I hope they will make this right. It probably wouldnt be that bad a fireplace if the workmanship and packing of the mantle were better.

(More customer reviews)I bought two of these and spent almost $700 and I am VERY DISSAPOINTED with their performance. You can't even feel the heat unless you are about a foot away from the unit. I live in California where it doesn't really get that cold in the winter but I was interested in saving money on my heating bill and this thing won't even heat my bedroom. The mantle is oak plywood, not solid oak as advertised. The only good thing about them is that they look nice. The Amish are being used as a marketing tool to sell these fireplaces. All of the parts come from China and are assembled by Amish in Ohio, so don't expect good Amish craftsmanship because you won't get it with a Heat Surge Electric Fireplace.

(More customer reviews)I got the Heat Surge today. I like the fact that this heater has a vent that blows out hot air rather than one that radiates it. The vent blows similar to the amount that a heating register would in your wall. You will not feel it if you aren't close to the unit. However, If you are standing in front of the unit it is very hot. The vent that the heat comes out of gets very hot to the touch. If a child were to walk up and touch it they could be burned. Much like any space heater make sure children and pets are watched around it. Another thing I found was that the unit is very front heavy. If it is sitting on a medium shag carpet it could tip over very easily. It is stated in the manual that if the unit tips over it will shut off automatically. A small child or pet could easily knock it over though.
I did find that over the hours I ran it, the temperature of the room was nice. It is also very quiet. I would say for the money you really are paying for a nicer look than a typical space heater and will probably work just as good. I also like that it has a remote control and it can be easily moved from room to room.
UPDATE: This winter my furnace's blower motor went bad. I was without heat for 4 days. I am so happy I had the Heat Surge. I don't know what I would have done in the dead of winter without it.

I thought that perhaps I had received a faulty unit so I complained to the people who market this product, and they sent me a replacement feed door. The replacement had an even larger gap than the original. I thought I had seen the bottom of the barrel until I saw this piece of junk. Do not buy this unit."

(More customer reviews)This electric fireplace/heater was great until it completely fell apart under its own heat. It lasted about 2 or 3 weeks and then I noticed something looked wrong. I opened the door to investigate and the back plate had fallen forward. When I opened the door, the door is connected to a side plate and the whole thing just came off. When I looked at what had happened, I realized that underneath the exterior which is made to look like metal there is this stuff that looks like recycled cardboard. The heat just broke it down. And it just tore loose. When I tried to turn it over to find the serial number which the seller had requested, the fake logs that were on the bottom fell out. The whole thing just seemed to disintegrate from its own heat. The seller was decent and gave a refund and they will make the effort themselves of dealing with the manufacturer who did not readily respond. I have been buying through Amazon for over a decade and have never had a bad experience before. I have never had to return anything before. This is a completely defective product. I would not have given it one star but that is the lowest rating allowable.

Dimplex CS1205 Compact Electric Stove Review

(More customer reviews)Some critter got under the house and detached our heating ducts a few years ago so we only use electric heat and ambient heat from other rooms in the livingroom. I was looking for a better space heater after an Econoheat panel shorted and melted while I slept.
The problem with most space heaters is they are UGLY. They look like they belong in a garage. I wanted something that looked like a piece of furniture that wouldn't set fire to my cats and that could heat up a big room with open doorways. I should also mention that I have a humor-based decorating style, so whether someone else will find it tacky or not is of no concern to me. I don't invite people without a sense of humor into my home.
Anyway, I went with this. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being an orange spotlight behind a fan blowing white bits of fabric around like some Halloween decorations, and 10 being a real fire, I'd give it a 7.5. It only looks like a real fire if you're not looking directly at it. The foily logs help a bit and it does have a slight 3D effect that makes it better than some, but even if you add a crackling fire mp3 and burn wood incense in the room no one is going to mistake it for a real fire.
That's not to say I don't like it. It does provide that hypnotizing effect you look for in a fireplace!
Additionally, it was 35 degrees F last night. I live in a farmhouse with 4 inch walls and cellulose insulation. I put it in my livingroom, which is approximately 500 sq feet, with an open doorway, 2 large windows, a sliding glass door, no basement, and an open stairway. It kept the room at 72 to 74 degrees all night.
It seems to be of sturdy construction. The top stays cool. The fan is very quiet. It's also light and portable. Overall I'm satisfied enough to get another one for my office.

Dimplex CS3311 Compact Electric Stove Review

After a week of going back in forth between this size and the smaller one, and reading countless reviews I made my choice and selected this larger one and I am so happy that I did!! I ordered the stove on Tuesday morning and it arrived Wednesday afternoon, how is that for service? It looks great and it fits perfectly under our TV. We live in a drafty house built in 1936 and even though we live in central Texas, the winters at times can be quite cold. Having always had a fireplace as a fixture in childhood memories, and loving its warmth and glow, I was determined to find something that could fit our needs and this was it!
As soon as it arrived, I literally lifted it out of the box and plugged it in. The remote is simply an on/off remote, which can be manually customized on the back of the unit so it can turn on/off according to your preferences. (I wish the remote was able to control the heat.) There are three controls on the back, a knob to adjust the heat/temperature level, a three part switch to turn the unit off, on, and remote mode, and a third switch to turn heat on/off, (a winning feature). Just for kicks I decided to crank up the heat and in no time, hot/warm heat was coming out of the bottom. I like that it was almost radiating heat with a slight force; I don't like having heat blowing at me. This was putting out heat at the bottom and since heat rises it was no time before the room was toasty warm.
The stoves' overall appearance is very pleasing, it reminds me of what one might find in an old farm house, but please keep in mind it is on the smaller size; 20 in long, 23 in tall and 10 in deep. But if you have a smaller, draftier room, such as a den, this will work great. And keep in mind; it is super light so you can move it around the house depending on where you are. I can't wait to move it to the kitchen, for that nostalgic "fireplace in the kitchen" feeling!

Rinnai ES38-P Direct Vent Wall Furnace, Propane Review

(More customer reviews)The Rinnai ES38 wall furnace ordered from Amazon arrived approximately one week later and had sustained significant shipping damage. Amazon and UPS were notified and the stove was sent back. A second unit was ordered a few days later and arrived shortly thereafter. It had also sustained significant shipping damage and was sent back. Both of these units were shipped UPS Ground - Super Saver Free Shipping. Amazon / UPS were both very good with regard to prompt action and refunds were timely.
A third Unit was ordered from another vendor in Pennsylvania and was shipped truck freight. It arrived 2 days later and was in perfect condition.
These Unit are fragile and easily damaged (based upon my experience). I was told that Amazon now ships these units truck freight but did not verify this. I would recommend you check with seller to discuss shipping method - recommend Truck Freight.
With regard to the Rinnai ES38 wall furnace, you will probably need to have a professional install it unless you are comfortable with flaring copper tubing, working with propane supply line installation, cutting a 3" hole through the side of your house to install the flu assembly and possibly measuring the propane supply line pressure with a manometer. Sounds like a job for a good handyman. The manual can be downloaded from the web before you purchase to help you decide about your installation and how much help you will need. Read the installation instructions carefully and be sure to use the installation template provided.
Once installed, the wall furnace fired up with no problems and runs like a champ. It is relatively quiet with heat being discharged from the lower portion of the front panel. Room temperature control is excellent. Controls are well placed and simple to operate and the Unit (mine is Beige) looks good. The permanent air filters are well designed and easy to clean and the built in humidifier should come in handy during the dry winter months. I would recommend purchase of this Unit to others.

Rinnai ES38-N Direct Vent Wall Furnace, Natural Gas Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this to replace the original furnace in my 900 sq ft, 1986 Mobile Home located in North Dakota. I thought I may need to use supplemental heat during extended sub-zero temperatures, but the Rinnai has had no problem keeping the place warm- even when it's dropped to -24 outside. The house is situated on a block foundation, and I have replaced all of the windows with Low E units; also I sealed off the old heating ducts to get rid of any drafts. The previous owner had already updated the doors with full sized insulated units.
The furnace is a little noisy when warming up the place in the morning, but when it's maintaining temperature it's very quiet. My last house was heated by a wood stove, and the Rinnai delivers constant, quiet heat in much the same way.
My only complaint is with the shipping- if you do buy one of these, be sure to contact the seller and have them reinforce the bottom of the box, as mine appeared to have dropped out while it was being carried. There is a piece of particle board inside the bottom of the box, but the the outside needs to be encircled with strapping tape(or crated) because the box will not hold up well when it's sent by UPS. The damage to my unit was minor, but could have been prevented had the box been reinforced. I chose to install the Rinnai as it was, because the cold weather had arrived and I didn't want to delay getting it into service.

The "fire" in the stove is realistic - especially the glowing embers. To a casual glance it looks like a real fire (although with careful examination the "flames" are not as realistic). The cabinet is very sturdy and gives a well-built feel. The cream color is nice and the finish is durable.
Note that the stove can use a lot of electricity - 15 amps when the fire, air filter, and heater are all working. If you have it plugged into a 15 amp circuit any additional load (a lamp, tv, etc.) on the circuit will trip the circuit breaker. Ideally it should have a dedicated circuit for its exclusive use.

(More customer reviews)I love this fireplace. I did a lot of shopping around to get the best price. (hint hint) I am very happy that the construction is metal, not plastic. It isn't thick metal but at least it's not plastic! The only assembly required is screwing on the legs (which ARE made of thick plastic but it is not obvious.) It's probably better for the floor that the legs are plastic so there is no rust or dents. The flame, logs, embers, and log holder all look surprisingly realistic. I was skeptical before I got it. There are 2 heat settings. It gives off a lot of heat. I have a big, drafty bedroom and it heats that place right up, even on Low!!! You do not have to wait for it to heat up. Instant heat. Very quiet, too. You can have the flame on with the doors open or closed, the heat on or off. The "fire" is behind a crystal-clear glass panel. The heat comes from the bottom of the unit. In my experience no part of the fireplace gets hot except the very bottom where the heat comes from. I am not worried about my kids or pets getting burned. My cat sleeps on top of it. It plugs into a regular outlet. No special cord, no 220 line, no professional installation. Just plug it in wherever you want it. Sweet.
