I thought that perhaps I had received a faulty unit so I complained to the people who market this product, and they sent me a replacement feed door. The replacement had an even larger gap than the original. I thought I had seen the bottom of the barrel until I saw this piece of junk. Do not buy this unit."

Northwest Glass Yama Stovetop Coffee Siphon, 1-Unit Review

(More customer reviews)This has to be my favorite (non-espresso) method of producing good coffee. Vacuum brewing (often called siphon brewing) was very popular before convenience assumed more importance than the quality of coffee produced.
While lacking quite the grace and style (and "coffee-table theatre") of the Cona version, the Yama brewer carries a much smaller price tag. Though it is made of glass, the Yama feels quite sturdy and should be quite serviceable - given suitable care. If it breaks, the cost of replacement is reasonable.

The Cona has a glass rod/filter which is very effective, zero cost, and low maintenance. I do not like the idea of brewing through re-used, laundered cotton filters as provided with the Yama, so I use an old Cory glass rod filter (check out eBay) which works perfectly with my 40 oz unit. A simple wire grid is provided and works well with my electric smooth-top. The whole process soon becomes very quick and easy with practice.
Maybe I'll buy a small butane burner to achieve the Cona's "coffee-table theatre".

Directions for Use

Pull the chain down until you can hook it to the bottom of the siphon tube.
Fill the bottom carafe to the 5 mark with hot water and place 5 measuring spoons of coffee in top chamber.
After about 4 minutes to heat the water, all the water is siphoned to the top chamber; allow 2 minutes to brew.
Remove from the heat source, allowing the coffee comes back down to the bottom carafe.
Remove the top, placing it in its convertible lid/stand, and bring the pot to the table for serving.

Dimplex CS4416 Compact Electric Stove Review

(More customer reviews)I use two oil-filled heaters to heat my living room, dinning room and kitchen, which is an open area without walls with an area of about 600 sq ft. There were a few problems with this method. Oil-filled heaters take a long time to heat a large area and all the heat goes straight up. The Dimplex heater solved these problems.
In the morning it would take two or three hours to raise the temperature by 3 or 4 degrees. I replaced one of the oil-filled heaters with the Dimplex. Now, it takes half the time to get the house warm. Another advantage of the Dimplex is that it has a quite fan that gently blows the heat from the bottom onto the floor. Before it was very warm in the house, but the floor was like ice. Now, the heat is more evenly distributed and the floor is much warmer. I can feel the heat on the floor from over ten feet away.
The thermostat, which is just a round knob without any markings, does a good job at regulating the heat. You turn the knob up on high then when it gets warm enough you turn the knob down until you hear a click. To make it easier you could put marks on the knob so that you can better tell where to set the knob. You can also turn off the heat and just watch the flames on the logs. It has a remote that plugs into the wall outlet and you plug the heater into the remote.
At first glance, the flaming logs look very realistic. When you turn the unit completely off it still looks like there are embers burning. I assume it is because there are a few very small places on the logs that appear to have reflective colored mirrors. It is a very nice feature and makes the stove look even more realistic. I built a 2-inch high 2x2 foot freestanding hearth out of ceramic tile on a plywood base and placed it on my carpet with the heater on top. This adds to the illusion of realism and protects the carpet. Since the heater does not get hot on the top, I placed an ivy plant on it just for a little decoration. I love the whole look that it creates.
The Dimplex stove solved my heating problems. It is small enough to fit anywhere. It is portable so that I can either move it to any location or store it in the summer and it looks great. I highly recommend this heater.

The glass front is thick and smooth and you don't need to worry about cracking it. The blue backlit display turns off after a few seconds which is nice. Great remote that supports all functions. There are a few annoyances that were weighing too heavily for us and made me return it, though: First, since the unit is only a few inches deep and it is either wall-mounted or on the stand there is no easy way to hide the cord, which really spoils the appearance. The fan is a little noisy and keeps on running even when the heat is turned off, probably to cool the two lamps and to generate the light effect. The "crackling wood" sound effect sounds hollow and thin but can thankfully be turned off. Finally, the light effect is not realistic at all, just a waving background.
If you don't mind these annoyances, it is a good product.

THIS IS NOT 18-10 Stainless Steel as Amazon claims. (even Copco admits in the
tiny-font "Kettle Care" insert that RUST will occur if ANY water remains).
Additionally, the phenolic handle can get VERY HOT (even Copco admits in the
tiny-font "Kettle Care" insert: "ALWAYS USE A POTHOLDER"). And, the handle
support/frame is cast zinc (again, NOT Stainless Steel) and subsequently will
corrode and/or oxidize to a dull/white appearance.
So, if you ONLY need a classical decorative item, this may be just fine at 15 bucks.
(the capacity of 1.4 QT is at Copco's own marked "MAX FILL" line, which, again,
Copco states in the tiny-font "Kettle Care" insert and is printed on the kettle front)
WARNING: at the erroneously claimed 2.5 QT capacity, this kettle will spray

When it showed up, it had a label that said "not for drinking purpose." It should have said that in the listing. I have checked many of these that were listed as not for drinking. This did not and yet it did list that it was solid brass. I thought brass was good for potable liquids. It is too small to be practical as a steamer. It is also made in China.

Nordic Ware Kettle Smoker Indoor / Outdoor Cooker Review

(More customer reviews)I grew up in Texas, and I know good BBQ. And the best (and IMHO, ONLY) way to cook BBQ is "low and slow" - cook at low temperatures and for long periods of time. You have to be patient to cook good BBQ. You have to get the internal meat temperature to hit 185 degrees in order to break down the fats to make the meat (beef) tender, and if the temperature is too high it over-cooks and can dry out the outer layers. And my, and my kids, favorite BBQ is slow smoked beef ribs. We have an outdoor BBQ that makes awesome ribs. The trouble is that now that I live in northern California (not a decent Texas style BBQ place anywhere), the winters are rainy, wet and a little cold. So when I came upon this indoor smoker I was cautiously enthusiastic. While the concept looked sound, the real issue is with the wood chips. I was afraid that in such a small cooker the wood chips would all burn up within the first hour or so, basically leaving the meat to slow roast for several hours. But at only about $70 I thought, what the heck I'll give it a try. Even though this product/seller wasn't listed as Prime 2-day shipping, the product arrived very fast - within a week. It came full assembled - all I had to do was insert the thermometer - which is a CRUCIAL part to slow smoking. So I washed the parts, put double the recommended amount of hickory shavings (almost saw dust consistency) in the bottom and loaded the meat tray with my overnight-rubbed beef ribs and some beef oxtails that I happened upon in my local Safeway. I put it on my electric stove and set the control to Medium. Here's a difference - the instructions call for "medium high" heat to start - I used medium because I didn't want it to get too hot too soon and burn up all the wood chips too early. It worked great. ** Don't forget to turn on your exhaust fan over your stove! While it doesn't give off enough smoke to see, you can really smell it and it can be a little overwhelming, permeating your whole house. ** Also, please look at where the temperature probe sticks down into the cooking area and make sure that you keep your meat away from it so that when you put on the lid the probe isn't touching any meat. It took about 1 hour for the temperature to get up to 180 degrees, and at that point I turned down the stove to med-low. In another hour it was up to 200 degrees. I left it there for 2.0 hours and then turned up the stove 1/2 mark closer to medium. The temperature rose to 210 degrees where I left it for the final 2 hours. So the complete cooking cycle looked like: 1 hour warm up, 1 hour at 190, 3 hours at 200, and 2 hours at 210. Also note that during the transition between 200 to 210 degrees I turned it up to Medium for about 3-4 minutes to have it create some additional smoke. I did this as a test - and this was how I learned that there were still good chips left that could create additional smoke. Please also note that smoke is being created at the lower settings but it is just too low to see. Your nose is the proof.
All stoves are different, especially gas versus electric, so you'll have to learn how yours reacts as you go. I was lucky in that my very first BBQ worked to perfection. All of the meat was melt-in-your mouth tender, and the smoked flavor was perfect. Now I can smoke meats any time I want and way more frequently because this thing is small and so easy to use. Please line the drip pan with heavy duty aluminum foil! Even though it is non-stick, that melted fat is always hard to clean off. The meat tray is also non-stick and cleaned very easily. The bottom piece and the bottom of the drip pan were another story - these took a little more effort, but WAY worth it. Another pre-concern I had was the amount of meat it would hold. It is definitely smaller than any outdoor smoker, but again I was pleasantly surprised. This thing cooks enough meat (beef) for two meals for myself and two kids. One good sized chicken should fit, too. All-in-all, an awesome product. If and when this thing ever wears out I will definitely buy another one. Indoor, slow smoked BBQ any time of the year!

(More customer reviews)I am happy with this fan. Uses two 40W candelabra bulbs. Light has only On or Off setting. I wish the lights were brighter or maybe it's that they are not a focused beam, or maybe the unit sits higher than my old under-cabinet unit. The lights seem to be situated more to the back of the stove than they would be with an under-cabinet unit.
Fan has 3 settings. Low is pretty quiet, high is somewhat noisy but not bad. The controls are sliders. The fan has 3 distinct settings: low, medium, and high. This unit plugs in; it is not designed to be hard-wired.
I bought this to go with the Broan LB30 30-Inch Hood Liner. I bought an older home that had an empty-inside wood hood (no over stove cabinet) and thought the liner would slip right in there, we pop the fan in, and that's it. I downloaded all the instructions, spec sheets, etc., I could find online ahead of time.
The instructions (both from the web and from the box) when utilizing the liner are confusing. My contractor had to call the 800# for advice and that person told him that the liner is not designed to hold up the fan. He said you have to either have a cabinet or build a box. In effect, the liner is just to cover up the wood, protect it, and give a stream-lined look.
After some discussion we decided to just use the liner to hold up the fan and it seems very solid. The liner installs with the opening pointing down (concave), so the bottom of the fan unit ends up 4" above the bottom of the hood and is hidden. I posted some photos.
It's slightly awkward reaching under and/or looking under to locate and move the switches which are on the bottom of the fan unit. I'm sure it will become automatic with use.
For my situation, this unit combined with the liner were perfect. The finished project looks very professional and was way less costly than a custom hood. It was not possible to find a matching cabinet in order to install a ready-made under-cabinet fan unit. The cost for this fan unit, the liner, and labor was less than or equal to what it would have cost for an off-the-shelf fan unit, non-matching over-stove cabinet, and labor.

(More customer reviews)This tea kettle is beautiful(or at least it was), but you have to go through a difficult process involving strong chemicals to remove the finish, if you actually want to use it and not just keep it as a decoration. Unfortunately, the handle didn't come off as easily as the directions implied and it got scratched. Eventually we decided to just leave the handle on and remove the lacquer from the kettle, but it also removed some of the black finish off the handle as well (turns out the handle is not iron as it appears in the picture). Now the kettle looks pretty bad and we are terribly dissapointed. I would not buy this product unless you were only using it for decoration.

(More customer reviews)I love this popper. I was looking for a way to make homemade kettle corn & this is it. It is so easy to use. My 12 yr old makes popcorn by himself and my younger kids love to crank the handle. For kettle corn I use 1/2 cup Orville popcorn, 1/4 c white sugar(brown makes caramel corn) and a little oil, sprinkle with salt before serving. Dump all together and put on burner. 5 mins later you have delicious kettle corn. I highly recommend this if you are tired of microwave and really want delicious homemade popcorn. A little FYI we have tried the popcorn kit it comes with, while it is good(a wee bit salty in spots) it's really not all that necessary. You get delicious popcorn using Orville's and a little butter drizzled on.

True to Colonial design, this Ball Tool Set holds to the traditional motif of a contoured Handle mounted with a simple Ball to create a classic air that will fill any setting it may inhabit.
